Haiti Here We Come

haiti-missions-group-2010

Haiti has not received much press lately in the news, since the big oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. On July 27, we will send a team of 14 individuals down to Haiti to minister to a forgotten mountain village a two hour hike outside of Port au Prince.

Please lift the team from BGBC and the people of Haiti up in your prayers. The teach will be leading work projects, a medical clinic, and children’s ministries to hundreds on the Grenier mountainside [July 27-August 3].

Here are some simple prayer guides to follow the team goes:

Haiti Team on the road!!!

Please pray for our Haiti team as they now head to Chicago to meet their flight to Haiti. Keep them in prayer every day as they serve the Savior there. Pray also for safety, for health and that God will bless their ministry with fruit.

Team members: Cort Starrett, Roxanne Starrett, Levi Starrett, Hannah Starrett, Ruby Starrett, Angel Elliott, Christina Elliott, Hannah Mattern, Austin Mattern, Janel Haines, Tanya Fry, Brant Hamby, and Sarah Hutts.

Just hear from several on the team. All the flights and connections went well all the way into Port-Au-Prince. All the gear made it!

They made it through the airport and out to the awaiting vans and trucks quickly. David Roos had everything set up for the team. The drive out to the base of the mountain, where they were to spend the first night took a little longer, as the driver got lost for a couple of hours, and the city traffic was pretty hectic.

But, they made it to the house where they are to spend the first night, got something to eat and were able to text and call home. All in all a successful day! Praise the Lord!

Tomorrow (Wednesday, July 28) its off to the mountain!

Haiti Team has landed.

We are here in Haiti. We all arrived safely with luggage. Tomorrow (Wednesday, July 28) morning we head up into the mountain.

Thought I would send a quick update!

Take care!

Arrived!

Stephanie Loehe received a text from Janel Haines stating that they have arrived at the top of the mountain.

[On Wednesday,] they woke up early and headed up the long hike to the village. They arrived about 9:30 local time. The morning was spent setting up camp and getting aquainted with the local village. The afternoon was spent sorting out medicines and setting up for the medical clinic which begins today (Thursday)!

Thursday, July 29.

We finished our first medical clinic. We saw approx. 200 or a little over today. It ran real smoothly. It rained as well so it is cool now. Keep the prayers coming.

Janel Haines in Haiti

The first day of clinic (Thursday) went fantastic. At one point, there were hundreds of people in line, they had hoped to see 90, and saw 228.

Also, they built three benches. They are building table benches that are of use not only for the church but also for the school. They hope the have the rest of them built tomorrow (Friday) and then work to repair some sheds in the village.

God has been so wonderful with the weather, it’s been cloudy with brief
showers at times.

The medical clinic was a success yesterday (Friday). It is a blessing we got done a little earlier than normal. During the day we had a wind rain storm and the tents collapsed with water in them. The people here are a blessing as to helping us get everything under control.

That same night another huge storm came through and some of our guys and their people were up holding the tents down so they would not blow away. We did have some tents still collapse and get water in them. So instead of in tents about 30 people all camp out in the church.

This morning (Saturday) we woke up to sunny weather again and rebuilt and cleaned the tents. Everything is back in place, and we are about ready to start the VBS. So, please continue to pray for everyone down here. Everyone is healthy. Take care.

They saw 134 folks in Friday’s medical clinic.

Update from Angel: They had a sucessful day (Saturday) at VBS. They saw over 200 children and fed all the children, their parents that were there, and all the workers. Some of the interpreters walked over 3 hours one way to assist without eating. So they were fed by our team.

Last night was very hard and the weather has been hard on the team physically. Lots of wet gear and tents. But they all are laughing and joking around and seem to be holding up great. No one has gotten sick.

God has been amazing in all that He has provided and with his protection and even more so in the opportunities that they have been provided to minister to and care of the Haitian people.

They are all looking forward to tomorrow (Sunday) and spending a day in church with the people of the village.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers for the weather.

Hey everyone just a quick update. Wow what an amazing day.

This morning (Sunday) we had church service and then some of us went out along the rugged mountain and visited people. That was simply amazing. We were gone about a good few hrs. We actually went with several Haitians as well. PTL we had no rain tonight. The first night.

It was a blessing as we could just sing praises to God in the dark with Haitians as well. To sum up the day it was a blessing all around and to see what God will do after we leave here.

Just continue to pray as we have one more morning of VBS and pack up. As for myself and the rest of the team, we thank you for the prayers and support.
